Should You Avoid Caffeine When Taking Kratom?

As kratom becomes more and more popular, people are combining it with various other substances either by accident or by design. Many people want to know what the effects of kratom are on the products that they use every day. Caffeine is a perfect example of this. Many people cannot start the day without a strong cup of Joe and Starbucks and the other specialty coffee shops are doing a booming business in lattes, espressos and mochas. People love their coffee, and they don’t want to give up this relationship just because they are taking kratom. So, should you avoid caffeine when taking kratom? Let’s find out

Why Add Kratom to Coffee?

It is likely that people started using coffee and kratom together because both are bitter liquids and one may cancel out the other. In other words, people are used to the bitter taste of their coffee. Adding kratom to the mixture is just a little more bitterness. Plus, you can add cream and sugar and it will taste great. The best way to do this is to use finely ground powder that mixes well in water. There are kratom instant drink mixes out there that you can use. You can also boile kratom down and then put the extract in your coffee.

The Effects of Coffee

As you probably know, coffee is a stimulant. What that means is that when you take it you feel stimulated or energetic as opposed to depressants which make you feel more relaxed and chilled out. Kratom is both. When you take low doses of kratom, you get a stimulant effect. When you take higher doses of kratom you get a sedative effect. So, if you are using kratom in low doses as a stimulant, you’ll be getting more of the same effect when you add coffee. This may not be the healthiest combination but it’s probably not dangerous either.

Don’t Mix Kratom with Alcohol

You should be perfectly safe mixing kratom and coffee, but you should avoid mixing kratom with alcohol. Both of these substances are hard on your liver and combining them could do serious damage. In addition, alcohol is a depressant, which means that if you take your kratom at high doses you are going to be creating another double effect. Most health experts recommend that you don’t even mix one beer or glass of wine with kratom.

How to Stay Safe When Mixing Kratom with other Substances

If you are planning to mix kratom with other substances there are a few things that you can do to stay safe. The first is to do your research and make sure that you don’t combine something that is going to put your life at risk. As for the other substances that are more ambiguous, you’ll want to look online and see what other users have said about their experience. If you can find a consensus that kratom and whatever other substance you are considering are safe to mix you’ll probably be okay. If you aren’t sure, don’t take the chance. Kratom is great by itself and has wonderful effects already without any added substances.
